Listen first. Song gives a bird away long before your eyes find it. Follow the hint line at the bottom of your view.
Move slowly. Every bird has its own comfort distance. Rush it and it flushes; drift in quietly and it stays.
Steady your glass. Keep the bird centered in the binoculars until the ring closes, then make the call. Shape before color, behavior before guessing.
Wrong guesses teach too. The bird moves on, but the field mark you missed goes in the notebook — it stays findable all day.
Different birds keep different hours. Dawn and dusk are the busy shifts; some species only show for one of them.
